Frank Ryan, J.D., M.Ed.
Frank Ryan, J.D., M.Ed., has extensive experience working with Tribes,
Tribal organizations, and the Indian Health Service on a wide range of
applied research and analysis studies. In addition, he has had undergraduate
and graduate level teaching experience and is knowledgeable of Indian
education policy and issues.
Mr. Ryan served as Director of Harvard’s American Indian Program where
he worked with students on a daily basis, assisting them with academic,
financial, and cultural adjustment to the rigors of university life.
Mr. Ryan also served as a faculty member, teaching: Federal-Indian Law;
Beyond the Best Interests of the Child; Administrative law; and numerous
Indian education, health, and natural resources special reading courses.
He was a member of the Standing Committee on Admissions and Financial Aid;
member of the Committee on Due Process; Member of the Administration,
Planning, and Social Policy faculty committee; Principal Investigator
on an educational research grant; and Chairman of the graduate schools
committee to fundraise an endowment to support Hispanic education.
He has published in the Harvard Education Review.
At the US Department of Education, Mr. Ryan served as Deputy Assistant
Secretary of Indian Education and oversaw the Indian Fellowship program
which focused on critical professions education. He has lectured at Harvard,
Yale, New York University, University of Washington, UCLA, University of
Illinois, and tribal community colleges and has extensive experience working
in areas involving education and personnel development; and academic
counseling.
