Kourosh Baghelai MD, Secretary/Treasurer

Kourosh Baghelai, M.D., is a cardiothoracic surgeon with 14 years of experience since obtaining his Doctorate of Medicine. He currently serves as director of Cardiothoracic Surgical Services at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Michigan, and is a member of that medical center’s Procedural Quality Committee.

Dr. Baghelai received his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and received extensive training in cardiothoracic surgery as a resident at the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania, and Hahnemann University Hospital at Drexel University College of Medicine. He is licensed and certified to practice medicine by the State of Michigan and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Dr. Baghelai previously served as Administrative Chief Resident and as a member of the Surgical Faculty Tenure Committee at the Medical College of Virginia. He has received numerous honors and awards, including a Certificate of Special Recognition in Preventive Medicine from the University of Maryland.

Dr. Baghelai has conducted numerous medical presentations, including before the American Association for Thoracic Surgery, the American College of Surgeons, and the American Heart Association. His research has been published in The Heart Surgery Forum, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, and Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, among other professional journals.

Before earning his M.D., Dr. Baghelai obtained a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, graduating magna cum laude.
